  • Register for the Online Change of Major Portal. You will create a user name and a password, which will allow you to return to the portal as many times as needed to complete your application and requirements
  • Fill out the online registration and upload all necessary requirements (portfolio, and/or essay) for your degree of choice.

Requirements for the B.F.A.

BFA – Art Education

  • School of Art application
  • Essay (see application for topic)

BFA - Studio (2D, 3D, Photography, Visual Communication)

  • School of Art application
  • Portfolio of 8 images

Guidelines for the Portfolio

  • 8 original images
  • Recommended size is 640 pixels with the longest dimension being no longer than 800 pixels.
  • Portfolios will be evaluated in terms of the applicant’s level of conceptual and technical skills, understanding of composition and form, extent of experimentation and innovation, as well as effort and commitment.

Faculty in your area of interest will be reviewing applications. You will be notified by the School of Art upon acceptance.

Once you are admitted to the BFA program of choice, you will need to make an appointment with an Academic Advisor, who will assign you a faculty mentor in your area of study. A new grid sheet and emphasis sheet will be created for you at that time.

The Visual Communication program requires a portfolio review. If interested in Viscom, you must schedule an advising appointment to verify eligibility for the BFA degree program before you submit your portfolio. You are required to submit a portfolio of original work the spring semester prior to beginning the 4 semester Design or Illustration track.

Once you have met the requirements for a BFA Studio degree, you will be placed in your BFA degree program during open enrollment or, as in the case for Viscom students, once you pass the review. All BFA students will be assigned a faculty mentor to work with over the course of your degree program.

Please contact Student Services to schedule an appointment with your Academic Advisor when you are ready to apply for the BFA degree program.
