Exhibition: Scott Ellegood, Being Perceived

Scott Ellegood
BEING PERCEIVED
Exhibition Dates: October 15, 2008 – January 7, 2009
Reception Date: 2008 5:00 – 7:00 pm

Scott Ellegood creates portraits of emotion and memory, rendering what is hidden beneath a surface visually apparent. We perceive others based on historical, cultural, and social establishments, but often miss who the person is or how they exist. Reactively, we mask ourselves for these same reasons.
As Ellegood unmasks the individual through his portraiture, a vague resemblance of the original manifests: “Metaphorically, one can embroider the truth, making what IS more apparent, or what IS NOT the primary focus.” Seeing what IS NOT may be the reality of perception.
