Dance classThe core curriculum for dance majors includes history, biomechanics, kinesiology, choreography, technique, music forms and literature, production, and career planning.

The BFA degree emphasize both the studio and performance experience.

In the junior year, majors may select a track or combination of tracks which emphasizes ballet, modern, or jazz dance. This represents the hallmark three areas of emphasis of the University of Arizona. The senior project may be in the areas of performing, choreography, teaching or production.

Students from other fields who have a special interest and demonstrated talent in dance may carry out a minor in dance.

Dance Minor

We do not offer minor auditions. Minors are selected by the dance faculty from the major audition list. In the event a student is not strong enough to be a major but strong in one specific area, the faculty may choose to offer the minor degree. The dance minor is limited to seven students in each area. If an area is full, we do not accept additional minors until there is a space available. Minors take the classes in their specific area of emphasis (ballet or modern or jazz.)

The Minor Core Curriculum consists of:

  • Dance improvisation
  • Two semester of technique (ballet OR modern OR jazz) to be taken in sequence
  • Dance Composition: Creating with Movement & Rhythm
  • Dance History
  • Dance in World Cultures
  • Biomechanics for Dance
