Ballet

Ballet instruction at the University of Arizona School of Dance is deeply rooted in the classical traditions found in the teaching methods of the great Italian, Russian and American ballet masters. Three levels of technique offer a comprehensive method that is both aesthetically "pure" and mechanically advantageous.

Classes encourage the understanding of style and the avoidance of affectation. This prepares the dancers to move easily in Bournonville enchainments, Petipa and Balanchine ballets and the contemporary repertoire.

The ballet curriculum also includes two levels of pointe work, repertory, partnering and men's technique. Clarity of foot work is featured and a plasticity of the upper body is developed which compliments a dancer's performance in modern and jazz idioms.

The UA School of Dance has a uniquely designed curriculum that is dedicated to the full integration of ballet, modern, and jazz.
