COURSE DESCRIPTION
For students who have had Art
255, this course goes beyond
the fundamentals of Fine Art
Lithography. Students are expected
to demonstrate knowledge and
ability with the traditional
and/or photographic applications
of fine art lithography. These
entail imaging, processing and
printing stones or plates in
single and multicolor editions.
In particular, this course emphasizes
individualized conceptual and
technological development.
Students
who have not previously
taken lithography should use
the syllabus for Art 255.
PROJECTS
At the beginning of the
semester, students must
choose between following
the Art 255 (355) Schedule
or developing their own
set of projects and timeframe.
With the latter, a written
proposal with instructor
approval is required
before the 3rd class
meeting (August 30).
In either case, the student
is expected to undertake
the same amount of work
as in Art 255 and to
succeed in producing
works of higher quality
and maturity.
CRITIQUES
Unless otherwise approved,
students will participate
in the Art 255 group
critiques and the
subsequent individual
critiques. The group
critiques
are intended to foster
discussions about the
projects as well
as about larger
philosophical issues.
During
the individual critiques,
the instructor will explain
the grade for the project
as related to aesthetic
merit, conceptual depth,
and technical accomplishment.
GRADING
SCALE
A = Outstanding B
= Good C = Fair D
= Poor E =
Very Poor
GRADING
Each project will be
evaluated according
to aesthetic
merit, conceptual
depth, and technical
accomplishment.
90% of final grade
will be based upon
the average
of the agreed upon
projects. 10% will
be based upon
attitude/performance
(as defined by attendance;
interest in and enthusiasm
in own work; initiative – doing
more than the minimum
to get by; participation
in
discussions, presentations,
critiques; coming
to class with necessary
tools and
materials; consideration
for others and clean-up
habits.)
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is expected.
The role will be
taken within the
first 15
minutes of class.
Tardiness counts
as 1/2 absence.
Leaving class early
requires
permission of instructor.
An excess
of 3 unexcused
absences will eliminate
all
attitude/performance
points (see above),
and an excess of
5 unexcused
absences will be
cause for a failing
grade.
Demonstrations,
class discussions
and critiques
can not be repeated – the
instructor will
be limited in his
ability to provide
missed information
without
disrupting the
course for others.
All
holidays or
special events
observed by
organized religions
will be honored
for those students
who show affiliation
with
that particular
religion, and/or
absences pre-approved
by the UA Dean
of
Students (or
Dean’s
designee) will
be honored.
