Bio
Dr. Edward Murphy, Professor of Music Theory since 1961, received his Bachelor's degree from Bethany College and his Master's degree from Indiana University. He completed his Ph.D. in Music Theory at Indiana University in 1964. Dr. Murphy teaches Sophomore music theory and graduate analysis courses in 18th and 19th century music. He gives graduate seminars in the music of Wagner, Bruckner, Mahler and Strauss. He has published articles in professional journals on the music of Mahler, Strauss, Bruckner, Liszt and Shostakovich, and has read papers at professional meetings on the music of Bach, Bruckner, Wagner and Strauss.
