Bio
Dr. Shelly Cooper has been an active music educator for 26 years. As a researcher and general music specialist, she has presented at numerous local, state, and national music and general education conferences and in-service workshops. Shelly Cooper currently serves on the editorial board for General Music Today, serves as a board member for the Arizona Kodaly Teacher's Society, and is Western Division Chair for the MENC History SRIG. She is the current book review editor for the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education. Cooper was a contributing author for the 2005 Silver Burdett Ginn's Making Music series and has numerous choral arrangements published with Hal Leonard publishers. Her work is published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, General Music Today, and The Mountain Lake Reader.
Dr. Cooper's research interests include music acquisition in early childhood, children as composers, and historical aspects of music education. At the University of Arizona, her teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate music education courses. She also serves as area coordinator for music education and the director of the Desert Skies Symposium.
