Bio
Dr. Essin graduated in 2006 with her doctorate in Theatre History and Criticism, with an emphasis in Performance as Public Practice, from the University of Texas at Austin and spent last year as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University. She also has worked professionally as a storyteller, creative drama instructor, stage manager, and theatre electrician. As a scholar, Dr. Essin conducts research into the cultural histories of theatrical design, investigating the ways in which design reflects and critiques the cultural landscapes of American life. She has presented her scholarship at both national and international conferences such as the American Society for Theatre Research and the International Federation for Theatre Research. Currently, she serves at the Vice President for Membership and Marketing and the Theory and Criticism Focus Group Representative for the Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
