Educator
Norman is a Professor of Music and the Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Arizona. He has been on the faculty at UA since 1997. His duties and responsibilities
include teaching applied percussion lessons from Freshman through D.M.A. level; Directing
the UA Percussion Ensembles; and co-directing CrossTalk,
the UA Electronic Percussion Group, with his colleague, Robin Horn. In addtition, he teaches courses in Percussion History and Literature and Percussion Pedagogy.
Before coming to UA,
Norm was the Professor of Percussion at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas
and Adjunct Professor of Music at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Norman
has also taught at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem, Israel; and at Indiana
University, Florida State University,
and the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

In 2002, Norman was honored to be the recipient of the Maestro Award from
the University of Arizona School of Music and Dance, awarded
"in recognition of his students' outstanding achievements."
In 1992, Norman was selected to be Del Mar College's faculty representative to the "National Seminar for Master Teachers".
While at Del Mar, Norman was twice nominated for the
"Minnie Piper Stevens
Award" for Outstanding Teaching.
